WHAT IS THE SCHOOL CALENDAR AND HOURS?
The 2018-2019 School Year runs from August 27th until June 7th; both schools observe most regular school holidays and breaks along with a half-day twice a month on Wednesdays. Doors open at 7:45 am for breakfast and the typical school day runs from 8:15 am – 3:30 pm. There is an extended day program beginning in November for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students.
DOES THE SCHOOL PROVIDE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMMING?
Yes. Both sites offer on-site after school programming through the Henry St. Settlement until 6:00 pm during full school days. There are need-based scholarships available to cover the cost of the program. For most of our families, the fee for the program is partially covered. For the 2018-19 school year, we are offering FREE after school.
DOES THE SCHOOL PROVIDE BUSING?
No. However the Office of Pupil Transportation provides MetroCards at low or no cost to many of our families. Eligibility for free or half-priced MetroCards is based on your distance from the school and is decided by the New York City Department of Education’s Office of Pupil Transportation.
DOES THE SCHOOL HAVE A SUMMER PROGRAM?
We offer a free full-day program for five weeks during the summer for students entering either school in Kindergarten. The Summer Kindergarten is held at 100 Attorney Street for both MCS and MCS2 incoming kindergarteners. There is no summer program for other grades, though there is a free summer band program for students participating in band throughout the academic school year.
DOES MANHATTAN CHARTER SCHOOL REQUIRE UNIFORMS?
Yes, all students must wear a uniform every day. Our uniform consists of a navy or white polo with one of our three logos on it and plain khaki bottoms, provided in partnership with Flynn O’Hara Uniforms. Uniforms can be purchased online at the Flynn O’Hara online store.
