We offer students several opportunities to further develop their knowledge, skills, and selves:
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
To help our working families and maximize learning for our students, we offer a daily afterschool program. Located onsite at each school, the program provides academically-focused homework help and structured activities in the classroom, gymnasium, and school yard. (This is the only extracurricular program with a fee attached. Need-based scholarships are available to cover the cost of the program, and for most of our families, the fee is partially covered.)
SUMMER SCHOOL READINESS PROGRAM
We offer an intensive, 5-week, full-day summer program to all incoming kindergartners. It is designed to ensure a mastery of pre-K standards, ease students’ transition to school, and aid teachers in understanding each child’s unique capabilities and challenges.
PREPARING TO MASTER STATE STANDARDS
To help students prepare for statewide standardized tests, while also maintaining our commitment to providing enrichment programming at least two hours a day, we require all third-through fifth-graders to participate in an extended school day until 4:15 pm starting in November.
Our chorus program is composed of third- through fifth-graders with a deep love of singing. Practicing two times a week after school in preparation, our chorus performs specially arranged numbers in our spring performances.
We offer third- through fifth-graders the opportunity to further their music study and performance skills with the same highly trained music teachers who lead their daily music classes. Our Louisiana-style brass band (the only one of its kind in a NYC public elementary school!) practices two times a week after school. Instruments are provided, and students perform onstage before a live audience in our annual Band Concert. In addition, there is a free summer band program taught by the band teacher.
